Painted Violins for Crescen-Dough Auction

Do you remember a few months ago, I posted a photo of me painting something that was blacked out? Well this is what it was. Last summer, a sweet lady and a mutual friend of ours visited me at my studio and romanced me into agreeing to be a part of the Painted Violins Event for the Huntsville Symphony.

It was a bit daunting to think I had to paint something on a violin, and even more daunting as to WHAT to paint and it still be my style, my choice in things to paint, etc. It took quite some time to come up with it as the violin sat on the back of my shelf hidden so that no one would know about this. After all, it is not until the unveiling that people find out who the 5 artists are--the lucky 5 who are asked to do this. I was honored to be among a fine group of people who were also in the same boat with me! My subject as you can see was the Eiffel Tower.

The awesome Mark Singer and me

Tonight the unveiling took place at the home of the Painted Violins major sponsor--the beautiful Progress Bank just yards away from the Huntsville Museum of Art. It was a very nice event, and people were really excited to see the violins that were handed out to us and transformed into all kinds of feasts for the eyes! Each one was totally unique and lots of fun!
Thank you to Progress Bank and the Huntsville Symphony's Crescen-Dough Auction for allowing me the honor to be a part of this great event. Be sure to place your bid on one of the violins at the Crescen-Dough Auction in April! More details to follow...

Scripture Paint Night!

My next Paint Night is Tuesday night, March 9th, and we'll be painting something we've never done--our favorite verse of Scripture!  Calling all Torah, Bible lovers!  Join me in creating a different kind of art for your wall--one that can bring a sense of love, joy and peace to you each time you see it.  We'll start with a background of colors of your choice and blend them as you like. Then we'll work at painting in a style/font that you like too.  I'll show you how to make it look dimensional, etc.  It's going to be lots of fun!  There are only a few spots left, so hurry if you would like to reserve one for you!

The door opens at 5:30 for mingling and hors d'oeuvres, then we'll paint from 6pm-8pm and then close with a group photo--a great time for just $75!

Call the studio to reserve  (256.232.2521) or reserve with Paypal on the sidebar.

Gallery's New Look!

This week, I received my furniture that I had ordered, and it has transformed my gallery in big way! At Auburn I studied interior design and after all those drawings we did of every style of furniture piece imaginable, I always dreamed of having some Le Corbusier-inspired pieces. I always knew they would look way cool in a gallery. So I found some pieces and grabbed 'em! They went perfectly well with my cowhide. I can't wait for you to see it all. Come in for a visit and check it out!

The nut being silly is not me. ;) hahaha

Wellness Living

It's the new year, and lots of people are resolving to do different things, and so I found it appropriate to share my latest quest-trying to like bananas. I would also like to shed the 5 or 6 lbs I've found the past couple of years. So, I am going back to my roots! I used to teach aerobics right smack dab in the middle of the 80s, and alot of jumping around, hi-stepping and grape-vining to awesome tunes is what gets my blood pumping. I'm still doing my yoga though since it's so great to re-align, stretch and strengthen as well.

But the real challenge in all of this is eating better--noticing what and how much I put in my mouth. I've always wished I liked bananas, but as most people who know me KNOW that I hate them. That is one big difference between my identical twin and me. I used to spit them out as a baby, and she didn't.

So, I've started making smoothies. They're great when you want to drink on the go, but want to have your healthy stuff to eat too. Today's smoothie did just that. Here's what was in it:

A cup of Greek honey yogurt
About a cup of Light Vanilla Soy Milk
About 2 1/2 inches of a banana
About 4 or 5 strawberries cut up
About 1 TBSP of flaxseed

Blended for about 40 seconds in the blender. Voila!

Let me know if you try it. I thought it was great! Stay tuned for more tips on Wellness Living as they come about!

*Update:

Today, I took some advice from a friend on Facebook to add protein powder to it. I tweaked the rest of it by adding one more strawberry, and it was DIVINE! Tomorrow, I will take another piece of advice by freezing my banana. Here is a photo of the ingredients. Enjoy!
