The Week in Review

The 3-day painting workshop I taught this week was so much fun!  The ladies did a fabulous job on their paintings.  The weather got too chilly to paint outside like we had hoped, but we made up for it inside the studio.  Thank you Michele, Becky, Meg, and Angie for allowing me to spend time with you painting.  Thank you too for the awesome snacks you contributed to our snack stash!  Yummy!

What have I been up to this weekend?  Well, Sister Grace was honored to be the entertainment for the Huntsville American Cancer Society Survivor Dinner to kick off  "Relay for Life" that took place Friday night.  In the picture above, we are with Lindsey Jones, the Alabama junior spokesperson for the ACS.  What in inspiration Lindsey is with her positive attitude after her battle with cancer at her young age left her blind!  She is involved in many activities--ballet, tap, band (snare drums) and Girl Scouts.  Does she let her handicap stop her? She sang a beautiful inspirational song and spoke like she were some adult.  So precious!

There were about 650 people at this dinner, and we were so honored to be a part of a huge group of heroes for the evening.  Thanks to Bennie Jacks and Tricia Motts for asking us to be a part.  To learn more about being a part of Relay for Life for the ACS, click here.

On Saturday morning, I was honored again to be on WAFF 48 talking about my art.  I've been on the set of news stations many times but mostly for Mission Makeover, so it was great to be talking about my art.  Georgi Bragg's Saturday morning news show is awesome, and it was great to finally meet her.  How did it come to be that I was on her show?  My newsletter. She got one that someone forwarded to her several months ago, and it all went from there.  A testament to the power of email newsetters!  Georgi is such an awesome person.  Read more about her here.  Thank you, Georgi!

And today--Sunday, my Dad and I took a little time to go to the Huntsville Museum of Art's Leonardo DaVinci invention exhibit.  Some friend of ours had won awards in a competition celebrating the inventions--they had made inventions of their own.  Marty and Kenny Davis are so smart and creative, and thier inventions were impressive!

If you get a chance, go to the museum and see on view my favorite things I saw today--the illustrations of J. C. Leyendecker.  His art was used for advertisements back in the early 1900's for Kelloggs Cereals as well as the Saturday Evening Post. He may not have been as popular as Norman Rockwell, but I believe he was every bit as talented.  I loved looking at these paintings!

Rosemary Beach Weekend!

Come the end of January, you gals out there may be ready for a getaway meant for only us gals! No boys allowed! Even better, it's at Rosemary Beach. It's a cool weekend of fun and relaxation. It's not expensive, but it is becoming popular. The event benefits the local Caring and Sharing. Read more about that part of the weekend here on their site....

My sister Claire and I have been asked to teach a painting workshop there on Friday from 8am - Noon. So read more about it, and let us know if you want to take it! It is a separate option. We'll paint ALL morning and create one painting. All supplies and snacks are included. Tuition: $175. We can only take a limited number. So enroll now! Claire and I are also booking girlfriend photo sessions, being that we are professional photographers too! We will shoot you and your group then images will be posted online for easy viewing and ordering! Can't be any easier than that. Sessions are for one hour and are $375 for the session fee. Book by one week before that weekend and receive a $50 gift certificate toward prints-everyone in your gal group!

We had a blast at this shoot last year...

How 'bout an Artist Retreat in September?

My twin sister Claire and I are headed to beautiful Jackson TN September 13th for a destination workhsop! We will be teaching at the awesome gallery Art Under a Hot Tin Roof. We are so excited and look forward to being with those who have enrolled already. I know there are a few spots left, so consider meeting us there and get ready for a great time painting!

This is the large gallery area where we will be holding our workshop. It is big and spacious with amazing natural light. I love the bleached wood floors.

This is the view looking out toward the front. Those windows are actually doors too. If the weather is good, we'll step out on the sidewalk and paint plein air!

Destination Workshop--Go with us!

Above is the flyer (click it to read it!) for the Destination Painting Workshop Weekend. I will be teaching with my sister Claire Kayser next month in beautiful Jackson, Tennessee (near Memphis) at Art Under a Hot Tin Roof Gallery. We are really fired up about getting together with a group of eager students who want to learn new skills in painting, learning some cool techniques that Claire and I want to share.

The weekend of September 13th-15th will be fun-filled as we meet & greet one another at Kat Semrau's awesome gallery Thursday night over a glass of wine and watch live painting. On Friday we will have a jam-packed painting workshop (full of demonstrations by Claire and me), with a Saturday morning finish/critique session. Then the grand finale of the weekend will be an Art Opening of my and Claire's recent work as well as our student's work (if they wish).

Oh well, "Sounds like a blast, but I live out of town," you say. Well--don't let that hold you back! We have a block of rooms reserved for those who want to come and enjoy the weekend with us--it's an unbelievable deal too!
